Waffle House to give free food to winning city of Auburn-Georgia

Auburn and Georgia square off in the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” this weekend and Waffle House is getting in on the action.

The restaurant chain is giving the winning city — Athens or Auburn — free waffles, hashbrowns and coffee for a day.

“College football is a big tradition in the waffle nation and we wish both teams good luck,” Waffle House CEO and President Walt Ehmer said in a release.

Waffle House also will give $15,000 to the winning school’s general scholarship fund.

Trust that no one is more excited about this promotion than Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who takes his wife to Waffle House after every Auburn win.

This is the second SEC rivalry promotion Waffle House has done in the past couple seasons. Last year, it offered a similar promotion for the contest between Alabama and Texas A&M. Of course, Tuscaloosa fans were treated to free food courtesy of the 49-42 win.

Auburn and Georgia have played 117 times with Auburn holding a slight edge at 55-54-8. However, the Tigers have only won two of the past eight meetings, including last year’s 43-38 win that came courtesy of a crazy tipped pass at the end of the game.
